Poetry Gabriola Is At It Again!

Poetry Gabriola is busting out of the gate this summer with THREE big new projects: The new performance series CONNECT; youth poet project Fountain of Uth, and the brilliant interactive electronic art map, The QR Anthology. First up is a beautiful trio of touring shows:

Hosted by Hilary Peach, CONNECT is a feisty little summer series consisting of three shows in July. These three performances are traveling from three Canadian cities to showcase three different disciplines interacting with text.

On Friday, July 15th we are pleased to present trance musician, spoken-word artist, and long-time Poetry Gabriola favourite, Ian Ferrier. Rooted in poetry, his live performances are an absorbing blend of whispered and spoken word and trance guitar. His signature is the quiet, compelling voice at the centre of every piece. This summer Ian will be performing with Vancouver-based dancer and writer, Alessandra Naccarato. At The Hive. Doors open at 7:00pm. Tix $15 / $10.

On Wednesday, July 27th we welcome, from Toronto, contemporary dance-theatre artist, Meagan O’Shea, to the Poetry Yurt at the Commons. Meagan will present six short solo pieces that playfully mix dance and theatre and move from set choreography to improvisation: “In one piece the audience calls out instructions so that they are choreographing my dance in real time. In another I ask the audience to vote on my dancing.” At the Poetry Yurt at The Commons. Doors open at 7:00pm. Tickets $15 / $10.

Friday, July 29th brings us Illiteratty. Spearheaded by longtime Vancouver activist-musician Earle Peach, this five-person ensemble is a funny, angry, idiosyncratic and extremely varied folk band. Bound to be fun! At The Hive. Doors open at 7:00pm. Tickets $15/$10.

CONNECT with your host Hilary Peach, and friends, for a trio of hot summer performance!  All shows are at 7:00pm. Tickets are $15 or $10 if you are a member of Poetry Gabriola. Memberships are only $10 (and well worth it). Tickets and memberships are available in advance at The Hive.  We recommend getting tickets early, as seating is limited. For more information on the series call 250.325.2264.
